T. Wolff: We have reached a level where we can experiment

Toto Wolff experimented with Mercedes during the first two practice sessions in Australia.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Austrian said there are good signs but some drastic changes have not worked.

Wolff: “We have reached the level to experiment, but there is still no good performance. In the second session, we changed the settings drastically on Lewis’ car, it hurt drastically, but that’s what this training session is for.

Russell, on the other hand, is a bit better, but we are still lacking. In terms of just one lap, it was not bad, we improved a bit, but overall today was not good for us.”

The head of Mercedes was also asked about whether the current regulation and the failures around it are starting to annoy the team: “If I said that it annoys me, it wouldn’t be true.

Of course, we are a bit annoyed because we are trying so hard, from all sides, but we still haven’t found that silver bullet that will help us go on the right path. We must keep trying.

We’ve seen before that this car can. I don’t want to repeat myself by saying that we are simply not good with this regulation, because everything we have to achieve the result – we will achieve it.”
