“Lithuanian society has the right to know what products are further exported to Russia. By marking the product, the retail chains would inform the consumer and thus allow him to decide for himself which product to buy”, says Dalia Asanavičiūtė, one of the initiators of the appeal, in a press release.

The 54 members of the Seimas from various political parties who signed the petition believe that Lithuanian residents should be informed about the products of such companies.

Therefore, in order to inform the country’s residents and allow them to decide which manufacturer’s products to purchase, the members of the Seimas invite Lithuanian retail chains to label the products of those companies that still supply their products to the Russian market.

“We are seeking a dialogue with retail chains, offering not to oblige, but to agree. However, no responsible business or leader should step down, because the war in Ukraine affects us all,” said Vilius Semeška, who initiated the appeal.

The text of the appeal welcomes the earlier decisions – to remove the goods of Russian manufacturers from the shelves of Lithuanian supermarkets. Nevertheless, the parliamentarians emphasize that it is necessary to continue to support Ukraine by all means.

The press release emphasizes that the assessment of threats to national security presented this year clearly shows that the companies operating in Russia support the Kremlin regime with their contribution to the country’s aggressor economy and help it secure the necessary income for war purposes.
