Tutkus will no longer be able to participate in the presidential elections: he did not gather the necessary support from the voters

As reported by the CEC, V. Tutkus presented 5 cases to the commission, declaring that they contain 8,783 signatures of citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who have the right to vote.

After completing the procedure for accepting paper signatures, it was established on Thursday that as of 5 p.m., 10,520 voters had signed electronically for the former army chief on the electronic service portal administered by the CEC.

Arūnas Rimkus, who nominated himself, did not present the voters’ signature sheets to the commission on Thursday, so at 5 p.m. only the number of signatures collected by him electronically was recorded – 1030 signatures.

In addition, former candidate Gintautas Kniukšta announced his withdrawal from the election on Thursday. The CEC stated that it had received his request to withdraw the statement documents – he had collected 766 electronic signatures.

Thursday was the last day when presidential candidates had to collect at least 20 thousand. signatures. They could do this both on paper and electronically.

More than 20 thousand signatures were submitted by Dainius Žalimas, Giedrimas Jeglinskas, Aurelijs Veryga, Ignas Vēgėlė and Eduardas Vaitkus to the CEC on Thursday.

Ingrida Šimonytė, Gitanas Nausėda, Remigijus Žemaitaitis and Andrius Mazuronis had already done this.

The CEC will check these signatures together with the information specified in the candidates’ application documents and make decisions to register the candidates to participate in the elections. This will have to happen no later than April 11.

The Lithuanian presidential election will be held on May 12, 2024.
