“I will also propose to suspend his membership while all those processes take place,” A. Mazuronis told Elta.

He added that he does not yet know whether V. Uspaskich himself intends to participate in the meeting of the party council to be held on Thursday.

“To tell the truth, I have no desire to wonder if he will join or not (to the council meeting – ELTA). As his conscience says, so let him do it,” said A. Mazuronis.

The meeting of the party council is called after the Financial Crimes Investigation Service (FNTT) officials visited the party’s headquarters in Vilnius on Tuesday regarding the investigation being conducted by the European Prosecutor’s Office, possibly related to the activities of the party’s founder V. Uspaskich in the EP.

Therefore, A. Mazuronis said that he intends to suggest that the party withdraw from the EP elections. According to the politician, there are several other options to be considered – to decide on participation in the EP elections after changing the leaders of the list or to participate without changing anything in the list, but by changing the chairman of the party.

Consideration will also be given to the “letting go” of the party

After the deliberations of Viktors Fyodorovs, the elder of the “Labor” faction in the Seimas, to “give up” to the party, the leader of the political party A. Mazuronis admits that there are more people thinking about it. Therefore, the politician points out, the future prospects of the party’s existence will also be discussed at the meeting of the party council held on Thursday.

“Because that story is completely new and completely unexpected, all options are now being considered. There are all kinds of thoughts, from quitting to changing the name, merging or other things. Those thoughts are many and varied. That’s why we’re holding the meeting today, to talk about how we see the situation and whether there is a desire, motivation to try to do something, burying ourselves in these unpleasant things that the former party leadership has dragged us into,” said A. Mazuronis.

“The second question on the agenda will be about the perspectives of how we see the future of life, because, it’s no secret, there are quite a few people who are simply tired of constantly grumbling about other people’s shit. I’ll say it frankly – I don’t have that much strength either,” the politician noted.

“We don’t go into politics to constantly explain that we are not thieves. We go to politics to be able to talk about political ideas, some kind of agenda and proposals. And when we are constantly forced to explain that we are not elephants and the like, it is not very fun,” said the politician.

He will take part in the presidential elections, and will decide on his candidacy for the Seimas

Despite the discussions about the withdrawal of “workers” from the EP elections, A. Mazuronis does not give up on seeking the post of the country’s leader.

“I will participate in the presidential elections purely out of respect for the people who collected signatures. It seems to me that it would be ugly to simply act differently,” said the politician.

At that time, participation in the Seimas elections will depend on further decisions regarding the fate of the party in politics, A. Mazuronis pointed out.

“We will still participate in some form (in the Seimas elections – ELTA) if we remain in politics (…) The question is, do we still see ourselves participating in political processes?” I see,” said A. Mazuronis.

“We have to look for ways to participate in politics and we have to find those ways that will help us get rid of the slur that is not pleasant,” says the politician.

ELTA reminds that the list of the Labor Party in the EP elections should be led by the party’s honorary chairman V. Uspaskich.

On Tuesday, law enforcement officers visited the headquarters of the Labor Party and carried out certain procedural actions, taking away a stack of documents, the news portal “15min” reported.

It is stated that the international investigation, on the basis of which the officials visited the party headquarters, is being conducted by the European Prosecutor’s Office. This was confirmed to Elta by the representative of the General Prosecutor’s Office, Gintarė Vitkauskaitė-Šatkauskienė.

The Labor Party has repeatedly found itself in the sights of law enforcement. In the so-called “black bookkeeping” case, the party has been accused of fraudulent accounting. At that time, the leader of the party Viktoras Uspaskichs and the currently imprisoned MP Vytautas Gapšys and other persons were sentenced to fines.

The Labor Party was found guilty of bribery and influence trading in the “MG Baltic” case – it was awarded more than 300,000. a fine amounting to EUR 10,000, and the former party member V. Gapšys was sentenced to 4 and a half years in prison.
