Anticyclone Sven brought warm and dry summer weather. It gradually weakens and is surrounded by clouds of atmospheric fronts from the west and from the east. During the weekend, they may also move to Lithuania, bringing short rains, sometimes with weak thunderstorms. The air temperature will remain pleasantly warm during the days, but the nights will be cooler.
From Monday, a new anticyclone will strengthen from the north, from arctic latitudes, which will expand closer to the Baltic region.
“Cooler air will rush from the north, the night will cool down even more, it will even threaten with frost at times, and the heat during the day will not please you either. At the beginning of the week, from the south, the atmospheric front will trap part of Lithuania’s rain clouds, and it may water it down considerably.
The middle of the week is drier but also cooler, especially with clearer nights. Next weekend, a raging, fierce cyclone may approach Lithuania from the northeast,” reports E. Latvėnaitė.
“So far, this is the saddest version of the weather forecast for next week. So don’t hide your warmer clothes yet. Neither for myself, nor for my… plants,” adds the forecaster.

Climatologist Arūnas Bukantis answered in the show “Dienos komentaras” whether the summer heat has come for a long time or is it just temporary spring pranks.
According to the climatologist, we will not enjoy the 25-27 degree heat for long, as the air temperature will start to drop on Friday.
“We are now under the influence of an anticyclone in the East, with heat coming from the South along its western edge, and then this anticyclone should merge with the Scandinavian anticyclone.
Then we will come under the influence of a colder air flow and winds will prevail not from the east, but also from the northeast. As a result, it can be predicted that the temperature will be significantly lower from Saturday. If now we have even about 25 degrees during the day, then later the temperature will be between 12-18 degrees and such cooling will be quite long-lasting”, said A. Bukantis.
According to preliminary data, the temperature will be different: it will be higher in the south, and it will not differ significantly from the rest of the country on the coast.
“Since the wind will be from the northeast, there should be pleasant weather on the coast, like in the whole of Lithuania, but the nights will be cooler,” clarified the climatologist.
In addition, overnight frosts are expected on the soil surface, which may occur on Saturday or Sunday nights.
“That cooling is quite long-term, in practice, if we divide the whole month of May into weeks, then the 2nd and 3rd weeks of May are expected to be cooler,” said A. Bukantis.
In the long term, the kind of heat waves that are happening now are not foreseen. In the coming days, the temperature will be 24-27 degrees, then it will drop to 12-13, and already from mid-May – 17-18 degrees.
“Let’s not forget the overall weather condition this spring – such a fun roller coaster: it’s +25, it’s +5 and it’s been like that for the whole month of April. It can be said that such trends will inevitably continue in May.
The first days are warm, then a couple of weeks are cooler, well, and in the second half of May, around the 20th, the temperature should start to rise again and reach 20-25 degrees during the day”, said A. Bukantis
