When he arrived at the Tuomai farm in Ukmergė district, where he was received by Gražvydas and Edita, Gian Luca did not hide his surprise – watching the show, people will not believe that they meet in spring, because the farm will be covered in snow!

However, did the winter that returned to Lithuania disrupt the life of farmers? “We are in the Ukmergė district, in the village of Medinai – it happens that Santa Claus visits us as well. However, we adapt to the climate, which is quite beautiful and interesting. And after all, this weather doesn’t always happen,” Gražvydas smiled.

The woman’s grandparents used to live in the village where Edita and Gražvydas farm now. It is true that it was not Edita herself, but her husband who persuaded the woman to become a farmer! “We raise sheep, alpacas and goats,” she said, but in the course of the show it became clear that these are not the only residents of the farm.

As Gražvydas said, gene pool sheep are raised on their farm. By raising them, Edita and Gražvydas aim to preserve Lithuanian sheep breeds. As many as 110 such sheep are currently being raised on the Tuomiu farm. “Such varieties are more accustomed to our climate,” explained Gražvydas.

The idea of establishing a sheep farm for the family arose when they themselves wanted to live healthier and eat only healthy meat. “We established a meat processing workshop ourselves, and then we started offering meat to people. It may not be popular in Lithuania, but we are trying to prove that it is tasty and healthy,” said the man.

And here, according to Edita, alpacas are a real object of attraction for children! “The more animals, the more fun you have. And we also want to show them to people. Our farm is also educational, so anyone who wants to can come, take a look, and have a good time,” said Gražvydas.

Finally, together with Gražvydus, Gian Luca also visited the meat processing workshop. And while he will impress Gian Luca, the chef will also notice one thing he lacks!

After experiencing so many impressions, the only thing left is to have a full meal. This time, Gian Luca decided to surprise with a juicy lamb loin with sardines and artichokes.

And while cooking, Gian Luca told more about the lamb. According to him, lamb is not only probably the healthiest meat, but also the one that people have been choosing since ancient times. “Now people often say they don’t like the smell of lamb, but it’s just because they don’t know how to handle it,” he said.

Juicy lamb loin with smidgens and artichokes

You will need:

  • lamb loins;
  • white wine vinegar;
  • marinade;
  • chopped sage and rosemary;
  • bay leaves;
  • Juniper berries;
  • a dash of olive oil;
  • canned artichokes;
  • chopped smidars;
  • butter;
  • rosemary salt.

Making:

According to Gian Luca, according to an old Italian tradition, lamb should be washed first with white wine vinegar and then with water before use. Finally, the marinade also helps to eliminate the smell.

To repeat the dish, first put the lamb loin in the pot, and then prepare the marinade. For this you will need to chop the sage and rosemary and then add them to the pot as well.

Add bay leaves and juniper berries and drizzle with olive oil. Add the canned artichokes and chopped chives. Add white wine vinegar, add butter and season with rosemary salt. Leave the dish to simmer slowly on the grill.
