Takes a referendum on the organization of a citizenship preservation campaign, founded a public institution – “4 million Lithuania”, collects support, mobilizes the Lithuanian and foreign Lithuanian community to organize a special campaign encouraging the public to support the preservation of Lithuanian citizenship for our citizens abroad.
“I cannot understand why the issue of dual citizenship is treated so casually. After all, every preserved Lithuanian citizenship means more interests of our country in the US Congress, the London Parliament, the Berlin Bundestag or any other friendly foreign country, which means a safer Lithuania with more investments and new opportunities. Not only can there be 4 million of us, but there are. I invite you to join and do everything so that the right to preserve citizenship becomes not only an issue on the politicians’ agenda before the elections, but turns into 4 million Lithuania”, says the founder of the IT company “TeleSofto”.
According to Marija Šaraitė, a public activist and the head of the network of Lithuanian diaspora professionals “Global Lithuanian Leaders”, who joined the initiative, this initiative is the first public initiative where Lithuanian and diaspora leaders unite for a joint campaign for the preservation of citizenship in an extremely short time.
“The bar is set very high and we have very little time. In order for each of our citizens to be able to preserve their citizenship, more than 1.2 million people are needed. positive votes on the day of the referendum, so I invite everyone with bold ideas, desire and determination to join us and repeat the success of the Baltic Way”, she says.
According to the data of the Migration Department, if Lithuania does not legalize the preservation of citizenship in the constitution, several thousand Lithuanians lose their citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania in a few years.
