“The parking situation in the center of Kaunas is not the best, as all drivers know. But the more I drive on Gruodis Street, the more I see blocked parking spaces. The hotel seems to have marked its own private parking spaces, although there are no signs on the road that those spaces are reserved. Shouldn’t there be fines for such arbitrariness?” asked a reader of “What’s happening in Kaunas” about the observed situation of occupying parking spaces.
He did not apply for road signs
In order to install a road sign for reserved parking spaces, entrepreneurs should apply to the Public Order Department of the Kaunas City Municipality Administration, which will determine the owners of the spaces, but as Martynas Matusevičius, head of the Transport and Traffic Management Department of the Kaunas Municipality Administration, commented to the “What’s Happening in Kaunas” portal, the person mentioned in such a request the hotel did not provide.
After inquiring about the situation, Kaunas District. VPK Traffic Police Department, they said that they are not aware of the situation.
“Usually, the creation of obstacles is illegal and liability is provided for in accordance with Article 459 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Lithuania. on the 9th (Violation of traffic safety requirements on motorways). A fine from three hundred to five hundred and sixty euros is threatened for this,” said the Kaunas District. VPK representatives.
The hotel has a private parking lot
After contacting Santakas hotel representatives, it turned out that the business has a private parking lot for its guests, but also sometimes reserves the available spaces in front of the entrance for its customers.
“We have a private parking lot for our customers, stakes are placed in this place if we are waiting for arriving groups with big buses that cannot enter our parking lot, so that they can conveniently drop off the guests without blocking the traffic.
Also, we put up stakes when we are waiting for large-sized vehicles, which are needed for sewage maintenance”, said Gabrielė Zavackaitė, the administrator of “Santakos” hotel.
