Owner of golden hands
Linas, who grew up in Molėtai, could be called by many locals a diligent person whose word is as strong as metal. And for good reason, because the man used to work in his grandfather’s forge since childhood.
“One of the grandfathers was a third-generation blacksmith – I saw him working with metal and helped since I can remember. Probably from the age of 5, it was like entertainment for me”, – Linas remembered his childhood.
And when he grew up, he didn’t care about hard work – after serving in the army, the man worked at a window installation company in the capital. Later, he himself was tempted to establish a company providing such services, and after returning to Molėti, he developed the business of metal products.
It so happened that the results of Lin’s work can now be seen not only in Vilnius, but also in his native land. The man smiles that the New Molėtai market located on the outskirts of the city is also the fruit of his creation.
Life has not spared a man with seemingly hardworking hands. And as if the available activities were not enough, the man from Moleti decided to try another business line – three years ago he started building modular houses and now firmly stands behind the Modul Bygg brand.
The mobile phone is then silent
Linas remembers that he built the first cabin for himself, but it didn’t take long for curious eyes to notice it.
“We took him to a plot in the city, there was already a circular path on the grass, and on weekends the phone didn’t go silent,” the man smiled.
He also attributes this interest to the COVID-19 pandemic, when people from big cities moved to homesteads and worked remotely. According to Lin, it was a good opportunity to rearrange priorities and slow down the pace of life.
“People saw that such cabins can also be a great place to spend time. It can be like a summer house, it can be like a residential house – there are such houses where people live permanently, they meet the A+ class, they are warm.
In addition, they are cheaper than houses built on foundations, since the concrete work itself costs a lot. These houses do not require permits to be built, and they can be easily transported or sold at any time,” the man named the advantages.
Values peaceful sleep
Linas, who has been building modular houses for several years, says that customers often have to be dissuaded from cheap, but poor-quality solutions.
“It’s not like I take all the orders – let’s discuss, I assess the client’s wishes, because I want to do it with quality.
For example, it happens that people want to save money and make the structure of the house from uncalibrated wood – this means that its thickness is not uniform, so the wall will be crooked. Then he should not go to me, after all, I will have to answer if the work is of poor quality,” the man revealed behind the scenes of the work.
The more Linas talks, the more one can be sure that the Modul Bygg founder values restful sleep like nothing else. When talking about the interior decoration of the cabins, the man says that it usually depends on the needs of the customer himself, but when installing the bathroom, it is hard not to make one mistake – according to Lin, the tiles in the bathroom of a modular cabin are a completely incompatible component.
“We don’t put tiles in the bathroom so that they don’t crack during transportation. A person might not notice it, but water would leak into the gaps and later begin to rot. We install the Norwegian slab – it looks like a tile or marble,” says Linas.
And behind some of the decisions is the wife of the Moletiškis. According to Linas, the other side often makes pointed observations on design issues. True, the man admits that at first he looked at them with skepticism, but in the end he still took into account his beloved’s remarks.
Has plans for the future
Currently, according to Lin, 10 cabins are being built, so there will be enough work until the end of July. It turns out that it takes about 2-3 months to build one cabin, depending on its size.
One of the structures will soon go to Traki, but, as the man remembers, the cabins had to be transported to Anykščias, Vilnius, Kaunas and other cities of Lithuania and even Sweden.
In order for these cabins to be able to be transported, their width cannot exceed 4.5 meters, and for transport to Sweden – 4 meters. And seeing these barrels being transported on the road, as Lin observes, may be unusual for many – some even pull out their cameras.
“There was a case when I saw a house being transported uploaded to the Internet, because people started filming it when they saw it,” laughed the man from Moleti.
It is true that people can also see modular houses in some Lithuanian resorts, where, according to Lin, “Modul Bygg” houses are rented to vacationers. And while sharing his future plans, the man from Molėtai does not hide that he himself has ideas to create such places in the region of Molėtai.
