On April 20, the Ginkūnai folk dance group of the Šiauliai district “Dobilas” celebrated an honorable anniversary – it was 50 years since the ensemble was founded and it was led by the famous Lithuanian choreographer, ballet master of the Lithuanian Song Festivals Vanda Verkulienė for 47 years.

During the anniversary evening, the famous choreographer V. Verkulienė, Genovaite Doftartaite, who worked with her at the beginning of the ensemble, took to the stage. They shared incredible stories about the creation of the ensemble, reviewed the creative turns of history.

Applause rang out for them, they were given thanks from Šiauliai District Municipality Mayor Česlovos Greičius and the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.

Ginkūnai folk dance ensemble “Dobilas” has been a participant in all republican song festivals since 1975, a laureate of many competitions and festivals, and in 1999 the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania, the Lithuanian Folk Culture Center and the World Lithuanian Song Festival Fund gave the nomination “Best Adult Dance Group and Leader” and presented the “Golden Bird” statuette. The collective performed with great success in Latvia, Italy, Greece, Macedonia, the Czech Republic, Montenegro and elsewhere.

At the jubilee concert, the people of Dobila danced “Airship”, “Šiaulietiska quadrilis” and other dances, which have already become the calling card of the “Dobila” ensemble.

The witty host of the evening, Jūratė Levickaitė, invited couples dancing in the “Dobilo” collective to the stage one by one to share their stories from the life of the ensemble.
