“15min” announces about it.

The Migration Department says that the man did not apply for the preservation of his Lithuanian passport, but was repeatedly informed about the possibility of losing his citizenship.

The man told the portal that he emigrated to Israel 30 years ago and received the citizenship of this country, and returned to Lithuania in 2004. The Lithuanian Embassy in Israel offered the man and his family to apply for citizenship restoration.

Family members received approvals for restoration, and the process of restoring the husband’s citizenship was delayed due to the determination of the place of birth. According to him, the Migration Department assured him that his Lithuanian passport is valid, he has changed his identity document, the current one is valid until 2026.

But a man who recently went to the doctor for a leg injury found out that even though he pays his taxes, he doesn’t have health insurance. The man received information from the Migration Department that his Lithuanian citizenship was revoked by order of the Minister of the Interior dated April 16 this year.

The Migration Department told 15min that in 2006 it informed the man that he could preserve his Lithuanian citizenship by renouncing his Israeli citizenship or by proving that one of his grandparents had Lithuanian citizenship before June 15, 1940. According to the department, the man was informed of the information, which was confirmed by his signature.

According to the department, after receiving the information, the man did not apply for the preservation of Lithuanian citizenship. In 2018 and 2023, requests were sent to the address of his declared place of residence to submit a notification on the acquired citizenship of another state.

“He did not perform this duty and did not cooperate with the Department of Migration, which sought to resolve his citizenship issue, although he had all the information since 2006,” we say in the department’s comment sent to the portal.

The department claims to have informed the person about the loss of citizenship on April 17 by sending him a notice of the loss of citizenship and a copy of the order.
