“Scania” laboratory opened in VILNIUS TECH – MadeinVilnius.lt

--

This week, the “Scania” practical classes laboratory was opened at the Faculty of Transport Engineering at VILNIUS TECH. The goal of the cooperation between the world’s leading provider of solutions and services for heavy-duty vehicles and the capital’s largest engineering university is to strengthen the synergy between business and science, provide students and teachers with the latest technical and related industry information, and develop future talents by popularizing the specialty of transportation engineering.

“All of us together tried to have as many students as possible in the center of innovation creation laboratories – here they are attracted not only by the new palace, but also by your latest technology. A young person is inspired by the success stories of our graduates born from cooperation with business, and the perspective of future work. One of our main tasks is to create exceptional conditions for the creators of the future, to help them grow and improve. Thank you for the partnership, the strengthening of talents, the opportunity to develop new competencies of young people”, thanked VILNIUS TECH Rector Prof. Dr. Romualdas Kliukas.

In the laboratory, students will be able to familiarize themselves with the most modern transport inventions and technologies, and gain valuable knowledge about the digitalization and electrification of heavy vehicles. As noted by the dean of the University’s Faculty of Transport Engineering, prof. Dr. Oleg Prentkovskis, the cooperation between the faculty and the Scania Lietuva company has been going on for many years.

Several practical seminars were held for the academic community, and theoretical seminars for manufacturers, educational tours, various trainings and lectures, as well as practical cooperation in the field of research into alternative green fuel for cars. Darius Snieška, CEO of Scania Lietuva, is the president of the VILNIUS TECH Alumni and Friends Club.

“Today we are very happy, because the Scania Lietuva company is taking another step towards the training of transport engineering specialists. The transmissions, chassis and internal combustion engine teaching spaces of the faculty’s Transport Engineering and Logistics Laboratory are being renovated, i.e. i.e. new educational stands appear. Here, students will be able to physically touch the innovations of transport engineering and get acquainted with the most advanced technologies”, said prof. Dr. O. Prentkovskis.

The Swedish transport manufacturer operates in approximately 100 countries and employs approximately 50,000 people in its companies. professionals. For the company, cooperation with the most advanced higher education institutions is an integral part of its activities. Scania’s innovative research and development includes cutting-edge technologies in areas such as artificial intelligence, automation, electrification, internet solutions for transport and the development of more sustainable mobility.

“Today, I am happy that the idea that was born more or less a year and a half ago has been successfully implemented. Thanks to the university for their efforts – it was a real team effort. The transport sector in Lithuania is very strong, it creates about 11-12 percent of the gross domestic product and affects the entire economy of the country. We are also involved in that process and we see that collaboration with science is very important both now and for the technologies of the future.

In ten years, there will probably be no need for drivers, but there will definitely be a need for people who are well versed in electronics, computers and able to operate new generation vehicles. I believe that this laboratory will serve both transporters and Scania. We will present several innovations here: it will be very interesting to listen to your needs in order to achieve mutual benefits”, said D. Snieška at the opening event of the laboratory.
