After the Vilnius municipality administration canceled the end of the heating season, the chairmen of apartment communities and employees hired by the administrators have been running from one basement of the apartment building to another in recent days, re-running hot water into the residents’ radiators.
However, many residents complain that even today they do not receive heat in their homes:
“No heating, cold, 19 degrees room.”
“It must be expensive to launch again, I think somehow, the slippers are warm, you put on the sweater and you’re good.”
“Thank God, turned it on today. The neighbors had 14 degrees at the floor.”
Offers to advertise 7 months of heating
The head of the Housing Chamber urges Vilnius residents to be patient.
“He runs around the house, from point to point, opens the basement door, goes to nodes, presses the button. This, of course, takes time. A small tragedy or problem, but it caused a stir. Some people were fired by the heating networks because they were hired for seasonal work, they needed to be brought back,” says Algis Čaplikas, president of the Chamber of Housing.
The head of the heating association calls to stop announcing the beginning and end of the heating season based on the air temperature. He asserts that hygiene norms require a temperature of at least 18 degrees in the apartment and suggests legalizing a constant 7-month heating season based on many years of experience – from October 1 to April 30.
The plans include year-round heating
Such a constant heating season, according to the head of the association, would be only the first step, and then he proposes to continue the heating season throughout the year.
“Heat supply companies suffocate in the summer, they have nowhere to put heat, because water still needs to be piped to every building through networks. Hot water is prepared at the heating point,” says Valdas Lukoševičius, head of the heat supplier association.
Representatives of the Vilnius municipality administration explain that they ended the heating season after meeting the demands of the residents.
However, according to the representative of the opposition, this could have been caused not only by the desire to satisfy some of the residents of Vilnius who demanded an end to the heating season, but also to save the state budget funds allocated to the municipality for heating compensation.
