We already wrote earlier that after the opening of this terminal, the reconstruction of the old terminals will begin, and the construction of the new arrival terminal (T5) will also be started immediately.

The T5 terminal is expected to open in 2027

It is also informed that by 2028 it is planned to renovate the current building of the Vilnius airport, built during the Soviet era. It is planned to be adapted for commercial spaces.

They also want to install an underground railway station by the 2030s

The same article also mentioned the construction of a new railway station under the Vilnius airport. It is said that by the 2030s, it is intended to build an underground station of the European railway “Rail Baltica” under the Vilnius airport.

According to the submitted project “Rail Baltica” railway line Kaunas-Vilnius engineering infrastructure development plan, it is expected that the European gauge will also be installed between Kaunas and Vilnius railway stations. In addition, it is planned to reconstruct the existing railway section from the Vilnius railway station to the airport.

The plan calls for the rail track to reverse at the airport, go underground at the Park Inn, and run underground all the way to the airport. A new underground railway station would be built under the site, which is located by the stairs of the old terminal.

However, the question remains whether Lithuania will be able to secure financing for the planned works and manage to implement all planned infrastructure projects by the 2030s.
