Eleven-year-old Tauras is learning Chinese on his own and dreams of becoming a physicist

--

He likes to play handball, even more like chess, learns English, Chinese and Norwegian, plays the accordion, harmonica and piano, is interested in physics, collects currency from various countries – this is not an adult, but Tauras Atmanavičius from Alyty, who just celebrated his eleventh birthday.

We start our conversation with little Taurus by asking about his birthday, which was only a couple of days away when we spoke. When asked what kind of birthday present he dreams of, Tauras shyly answered: “I don’t know, I have everything.”

Indeed, Taurus has a lot – not only toys or games that children like, he has many hobbies. Some of them can be called exceptional.

The boy has been learning Chinese on his own for some time. “I have a Chinese dictionary. It says how to pronounce letters and one or another word. First of all, I try to remember the pronunciation, and I associate the pronunciation with the letter”, says Tauras about the learning methodology. According to him, Chinese is difficult, but he decided to learn it to see if he could overcome this challenge on his own. “I’m not very good at studying, but I really want to learn this difficult language,” Tauras does not hide.

In addition to Chinese, Tauras is also learning Norwegian. The boy tries to understand this language with the help of his parents and, as he claims, speaks English fluently.

“Tauras has been interested in many things since childhood. His hobbies often changed and there were always many of them. He was mostly interested in sports, art, music. At the age of five, Tauras wanted to attend rugby. Classes in this sport were not organized in Alytus, so my son had to be taken to Seiriju, but over time the desire to play rugby faded”, says mother Eglė Atmanaviče about her son’s curiosity and changing interests, adding that Tauras is not only a curious, but also a very communicative boy. .

According to his mother, Tauras preferred to communicate with the teachers rather than play with the children when he attended the nursery-kindergarten.

A few days ago, the eleven-year-old visited Vilnius with his mother at the radio station “Power Hit Radio”. Tauras was invited to the studio of this radio station as an active participant in various on-air games. There he played chess together with radio presenters and talked about various topics.

He learns to play together with his grandparents

Music is another hobby that attracts Taurus. “I play accordion, harmonica and piano. I don’t attend music school. I learn to play the accordion by myself or with my grandmother, and the harmonica with my grandfather,” says the boy.

Tauras recently started playing basketball, after completing his homework, he happily plays football outside with his friends.

The boy started playing handball only recently and so far he cannot boast of any special achievements.

Taurus is no less interested in physics and mathematics than sports. “I like physics because there are many fields in it, and I like to study mathematics with my grandmother, who is a mathematics teacher,” says the little guy from Aly.

After talking about the sciences at school, Tauras begins to name the classes he likes the most: “I like mathematics, knowledge of the world, English, information technology, religion.”

However, music, art and dance are not close to Taurus’ heart. “I don’t like the music lesson, because during it we don’t learn to play, but only to sing,” admits the boy.

After mentioning his dreams, Tauras, who was walking, said that he first dreams of finishing school well, and then of entering Vilnius University and studying physics. A mother’s greatest desire is for her son to be happy, and his favorite activities not to be forgotten.

Alytus is the most beloved city

The conversation with little Taurus turns to the topic of his hometown. The boy likes Alytus very much, especially the surrounding nature and the different architectural styles prevailing in the city: “You go to First Alytus and everything looks different there than in the city center. There is a different architecture.”

Tauro’s mother is also fascinated by Alytus: “Alytus is the most beloved and most wonderful city for me. We were in Vilnius yesterday. We didn’t stay there for long, but as soon as I got to the capital, I wanted to go home.”

According to mother E. Atmanavičienė, who is raising Taura and his two-year-old sister, the hometown has wonderful nature and excellent conditions for raising children.
