As in Kaunas, so throughout Lithuania – the most popular dishes delivered by couriers are similar in the country’s major cities

The regions of Lithuania differ in their economic situation, dialects, driving habits, etc., but they are clearly united – at least in the country’s biggest cities – by what dishes and food products we order at home. Pizza, kebab and burger are the main choices from restaurants, and from shops we usually order bananas, water and croissants.

Pizza remains the queen of orders from restaurants to home – we order it most often in the big cities of the country. In Vilnius, Klaipėda and Šiauliai, choice no. 2 is a kebab. In Kaunas, kebabs are surpassed in popularity by burgers, which are in second place, and in Šiauliai, sushi. This data is collected based on information from the Wolt platform.

“The taste of Lithuanian residents does not change significantly, regardless of which region they live in. Next to the main three – pizza, kebabs and burgers – sushi and other Asian dishes can also be singled out as extremely popular.

It is still difficult for other dishes to compete with this top-5, despite the fact that more and more residents need the help of couriers during lunch breaks on weekdays, when it is customary to choose more traditional dishes,” comments Mantas Lomsargis, manager of “Wolt” in the Baltic States.

Panevėžys stands out the most

Home orders from stores reveal a similar picture. In all cities, the first position goes to bananas, the second to drinking water. And only in Panevėžys, another drink took second place – beer.

Panevėžys is also distinguished by the fact that cheeses and butter are among the top five ordered products, but croissants and cucumbers, which are often ordered in other cities, are not.

When ordering from “Wolt Market” stores, which are still available to residents of Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda, residents prefer chips and other snacks, and from drinks they usually choose carbonated drinks and milk. Bananas are also in the top five.

Especially if the physical store is further away, the weather is bad or there is no time or opportunity to run to it,” says J. Orpana.
