This year’s March in Lithuania has already gone down in history as the hottest during the entire weather monitoring period. On Sunday, not only the temperature record for the day, but also for the whole month was improved again. The previous one was exceeded by almost six degrees – in Druskininkai during Easter, the thermometers climbed above 25 degrees.
“The second day in a row – again two new records,” the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service announced on Sunday. – Based on preliminary data, a record for the highest air temperature on March 31 was measured.
It even warmed up to +25.5 degrees Celsius in Druskininkai. The previous record for March 31 was recorded exactly 14 years ago (March 31, 2010) in Lazdijai, when it warmed up to +19.8 degrees (that is, even 5.7 degrees less than today). At the same time, the record for the highest air temperature in March (+22.4 degrees, Druskininkai), which did not last even a day on Saturday, was improved by 3.1 degrees.
Today, the weather was more or less sunny and unusually warm for this time of year. The highest temperature during the day in the shade reached 18-23 degrees Celsius. In the sunshine, it was possible to treat yourself to a few more degrees higher – quite summer heat.
Unfortunately, this idyll promises to end soon. A cyclone will approach from the west already on Tuesday night. The sky will be overcast, and rain clouds from the atmospheric front will reach the western and central regions of the country in the morning. The wind will be south, south-west, moderate. The cloudy night will still be warm: the temperature will be 7-12 degrees, the temperature on the beach will fluctuate around 5 degrees.
