Professor – about how many eggs you can eat at Easter and how long it is safe to keep daisies on the table

How many eggs can you eat per day, per week?

When asked about how many eggs can be eaten, prof. R. Stukas said that today the egg has already been rehabilitated and if a person adheres to the recommendations of a healthy diet, is healthy, does not suffer from any diseases that can be caused by improper nutrition, it is estimated that one egg per day does not pose any proven risk to health.

And he added that if a person eats healthily, he can eat up to nine eggs in a week: “Because sometimes a man, after eating one, won’t even feel that he has eaten. So sometimes you can eat two or even three eggs at once. But you really shouldn’t consume more than 9 eggs per week.”

However, for people who have high cholesterol, who are overweight, have diseases related to improper, unhealthy diet, egg consumption, Prof. According to R. Stukas, it is necessary to limit, because the egg yolk contains a concentration of cholesterol.

Proteins are especially valuable

Speaking about egg white, the professor reminded that the World Health Organization has adopted it as a protein standard: “It is the most absorbable and biologically valuable protein. It’s probably not for nothing that bodybuilders who build muscles like to eat egg whites, because they are biologically very valuable, they are also necessary for the construction of new cells, the regeneration of old cells, and they are also important for immune cells.

When we talk about the strength of the immune system, protein completeness is also very important. So the egg contains all the substances we need. We are really happy that scientific research has revealed that you can eat not two eggs, but more.”

Prof. R. Stukas pointed out that in order for proteins to be absorbed, it is necessary for the protein to be condensed when boiling the egg: “If it is not condensed, the absorption will be very bad. And the yolk, it is best if it remains liquid, then vitamins and trace element selenium remain in it. Therefore, the best option is when the protein is condensed and the yolk is liquid.

Of course, there are dishes that require the addition of a hard-boiled egg. But, if we are already hard boiling, the eggs should not be overboiled. There have been studies, if you boil an egg for, for example, 15 minutes, the biological value will decrease in particular.”

Eggs should not be kept on the table all day

For Easter, we all print eggs that lie on the festive table. There are not rare cases when the daisies that decorated the table remain on it for a whole day or even two. When asked how long it is safe to keep hard-boiled eggs on the Easter table and then eat them, Prof. R. Stukas said that eggs should not be stored at room temperature for more than two or three hours: “If that has already happened, they should be eaten that day.”

According to the interviewer, if the dyed eggs are stored in the refrigerator from the beginning, they can be used for two to three days.

The professor said that the temperature at which the eggs are kept should not be changed either: that is, they should not be kept at room temperature and put in the refrigerator, then taken out and put back in again:

“When we dye the eggs, we should put as much on the table as we plan to eat now, and put the rest, which we want to put on the table and eat tomorrow, in the refrigerator.”

It is important to have moderation and not to forget water

Overeating during the holidays is a familiar feeling to many. What to do so that you don’t have to regret and feel bad afterwards? Prof. R. Stukas said that when it comes to festive nutrition, moderation is the most important thing, so you should look at what and how much you are going to eat so that the body does not become burdened:

“Eggs are often eaten with mayonnaise, added to a white mixture that also contains mayonnaise, maybe eggs are eaten with herring, which also contains fat. Therefore, moderation is very important and food should be enjoyed. Because, if a lot of various fatty products enter the stomach at the same time, to which one or another person’s body is not accustomed, the enzymes may not be able to handle themselves, health disorders may occur. So moderation during the holidays is really very important. And let’s follow the recommendations of a healthy diet every day.”

When asked if it would be worthwhile to include elements of a healthy diet in the holiday diet, the interviewer said that it would not hurt, but he understands that traditional dishes will not disappear from the holiday table.

“Probably, those festive dishes are established and we will not remove them from the diet. Of course, if we supplement them with fresh vegetables, healthy products – everything is fine. But classic, common dishes that are passed down from generation to generation will still appear on our table. Some of them are eaten only during holidays, so they are expected, they are delicious, and they are often overeaten.

Instead, we always emphasize that you should not eat too much. It is best to put a small portion of one or another dish on the plate and not to forget that the holiday is not just about sitting at the table and eating, you also need to move, – reminded prof. R. Stukas added that it is important not to forget water:

– And one more important thing – you must not forget to drink pure, high-quality drinking water. The inhabitants of Lithuania drink too little water, they need it to make the contents of the stomach more liquid and to digest food more easily.”
