Residents of Alytus region no longer need to go to third-level hospitals in other cities due to the many services in the field of traumatology. Recently, there is even a noticeable trend that people from big cities return to the S. Kudirka Hospital of Alytus County for surgery. The department of orthopedic traumatology is constantly lacking in innovation – starting with various operations and ending with technological possibilities.
“After the renovation of the department and operating rooms, treatment conditions have significantly improved – not only the environment itself has changed, but also technological solutions, we provide more treatment services than before. For example, we use high-quality German implants, we constantly follow innovations and improvements and use this in our work. In addition, we have a very good European level technique.
A large part of our planned operations consists of joint replacement. Predominant knee and hip joint prostheses. We already have the opportunity to perform prosthetic hand joints. And the results of these operations in terms of complications, compared to other treatment facilities, are encouraging”, says Virgilijus Leketas, traumatologist and orthopedist, head of the Traumatology Orthopedic Department of the Alytus County S. Kudirka Hospital.
About 300 large joint prosthetic operations are performed at the hospital per year.
The doctors of this department have a lot of experience in performing arthroscopic operations. Among the most common are knee and shoulder joints. Also, more and more knee ligament and shoulder tendon operations are performed.
The doctors of the department bring theoretical and practical knowledge about the latest possibilities of treatment and operations from abroad – Germany, France and other countries.
There are 7 traumatologists working in the department, and young doctors on duty from Kaunas, as well as from Druskininkai, Lazdijai, also come to work at the hospital.
