The Mercedes Benz minibus was stopped by the officers around 6 o’clock in the morning in the village of Pavartyčiai, Radviliškis district. The towing trailer of the car, in which the four were sitting, was full of various metal.
The driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old resident of Radviliškis, was hit with alcohol. He was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.14. The driver was issued an administrative offense report for driving under the influence, as there is zero alcohol tolerance for novice drivers.
When the police officers were explaining the origin of the transported metal, it was found not only in the trailer, but also in the minibus. The driver explained that the metal was given to him by a familiar person, but he did not answer who that person was.
It was established that a 25-year-old resident of the Radviliškis district, his sister and a wanted 16-year-old girl, whose failure to return to the Radviliškis community care home had been reported to the authorities by the staff of the home, were traveling together with the driver. The found girl was taken to her place of residence, and the car with the cargo and the trailer were brought to the territory of the Police Commissariat.
After checking the database, it was found that the vehicle is rented, and the trailer belongs to a resident of Šiauliai. After contacting him, it turned out that the trailer was left in an uninhabited homestead in the village of Pavartyčiai, where the father of the man from Šiauliai, now dead, once lived.
It is suspected that a 25-year-old resident of Radviliškis, having learned about the dead owner of the homestead and the huge deposits of metal there, decided to make a profit by appropriating them.
Since there was a lot of metal and it did not fit in the rented vehicle, the man, who found a car trailer in the outbuilding of the homestead, loaded it as well.
In total, about 1,300 kilograms of metal were stolen – bicycles, gas cylinders, a stove, a water pump, lawnmowers, a saw, etc.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the theft. The strictest measure of detention was applied to the driver – arrest.
This resident of Radviliškis constantly receives the attention of law enforcement, convicted for theft and illegal possession of narcotic substances. Currently, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted in relation to him for the illegal possession of narcotic substances recorded in Šiauliai, and now also for the theft of metal.
The extent to which the persons who were traveling together contributed to the crime will be revealed during the pre-trial investigation.
