Calling this situation a huge blow to the Labor Party, party chairman Andrius Mazuronis is considering even the most radical scenarios for the party’s future.

At that time, the lawyer Romualdas Drakšas named the most likely version of what V.Uspaskich’s actions led to the search of the party headquarters.

A. Mazuronis: it would have been manly and honorable to inform other persons

On Tuesday, law enforcement officials visited the headquarters of the Labor Party and carried out certain procedural actions and took away a stack of documents.

The leader of “Darbiečių” A. Mazuronis did not hide his indignation about another dark shadow over the party in the “Nauja diena” TV show of “Lietuvos ryto”.

“We successfully swim from one shit to another shit and see how much strength we have left to try to do something,” said the party leader.

According to A. Mazuronis, the search of the party’s headquarters, the legal process initiated will strongly affect the party itself.

“First of all, it strongly demotivates party members, members of the Seimas, members of the leadership who have nothing to do with what is happening, for whom it was like a thunderbolt from a clear sky,” he complained.

In addition, the leader of the “workers” is convinced that he will affect the party in terms of reputation as well.

“Although it has nothing to do with the party’s activities, it is still a negative charge for the party, and we, as the Labor Party, have enough of that negative charge. There will be consequences, the question is what decisions we will take next and how we will continue to organize our activities,” he emphasized.

A meeting of the Labor Party council is being called for Thursday evening, where party members will consider all possible scenarios for the political future – even the possible closure of the party.

“We will make some decisions, both related to the former chairman, and in general, we will discuss our perspectives, how we see them, how we see life, and how much energy there is to act and do something in the circumstances in which we operate,” he did not hide.

A. Mazuronis said that he had not spoken to the founder of the Labor Party, V. Uspaskich, after this event, and that he last spoke to him a long time ago – at the party’s headquarters, when he asked the MEP whether he would run for the EP again.

“It seems to me that for a man against whom some act or other is being committed, when he knows that it is being committed, it would be manly and honorable on his part to inform others who are involved or may become involved when such a situation occurs, what happened Unfortunately, I did not receive any information”, said A. Mazuronis.

Lawyer: No need to juggle millions

On his part, lawyer R. Drakšas said during the program that most of the time natural persons against whom procedural actions are taken do not know about them.

“The purpose of searches is to carry them out quickly so that no one can prepare and destroy any data or documents, so they are usually carried out without informing anyone, suddenly, impromptu, while driving and doing it. I doubt whether that natural person knew about the investigative actions”, said R. Drakšas.

At that time, A. Mazuronis said he was sure that V. Uspaskich knew, but did not elaborate on why he thought so.

Assessing the search conducted at the headquarters of the Labor Party, the lawyer said that these are elementary procedural actions.

“They don’t mean that some kind of investigation is underway in Lithuania – it is likely that the investigation was not started in Lithuania, it’s just that the European Prosecutor’s Office and the European prosecutors, who are in charge, carried out procedural actions here.

It’s a very normal thing, it doesn’t mean anything too much, and it’s not necessarily about the Labor Party – it could have been the actions of a simple individual who is now a former chairman, and has nothing to do with the Labor Party itself. Searches and searches can be done anywhere, in any premises,” he said.

When asked what V.Uspaskich could have done in the EP to necessitate the search of the Labor Party headquarters, the lawyer can only guess from his practice based on when and who usually performs such actions.

“In my opinion, the most logical thing is that this is an act related to some corrupt actions,” R. Drakšas guessed.

It is difficult to predict what the extent of possible corruption could be.

“Every crime is a serious matter and is investigated. If my guess is correct, then it is not necessary to juggle millions here – it could be some elementary agreements for some kind of voting, for some illegal lobbying, pushing some interests”, the lawyer named.

At that time, according to him, the public will learn about the nature of the possible crime when the prosecutor’s office decides to make it public.

“When publicity will no longer harm the pre-trial investigation. Publicity in itself is good until it starts to bring evil. Therefore, the prosecutor’s office is evaluating all of this, whether this public resignation will not affect the pre-trial investigation, or whether they have any other actions planned.

When they evaluate all this, then we will hope – it could be tomorrow or next month,” he noted.
