On the morning of March 26, the police officers of the Kelme district, after receiving a report that there are stocks of homemade vodka in a homestead in the Kelme district, checked the information and made sure of its validity. In order to record the criminal act, a decision was obtained from the judge of the Šiauliai district court in Kelmė Chamber to carry out a sanctioned seizure in that homestead.
From different angles, the researchers pulled out plastic containers of various capacities with clear and colored liquid. In total – about 50 liters. And all of it had the smell of home-brewed hard liquor.
Officers searching for homemade vodka were in for a surprise – in addition to illegal alcohol, they found unexpected items – a small-caliber shotgun and 28 small-caliber rounds of ammunition. A 64-year-old man living here admitted that this find belongs to him, although he does not have the right to keep weapons and ammunition.
A pre-trial investigation was launched into the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and the illegal possession of home-made strong alcoholic beverages.
Alcohol, weapons and ammunition were handed over to specialists for investigation. Upon receiving their conclusions, the man will be charged with the aforementioned criminal acts.
The Criminal Code provides for community service or a fine, or restriction of liberty, or arrest, or deprivation of liberty for up to two years for illegal possession of homemade strong alcoholic beverages. And the possession of a firearm and ammunition without a permit is punishable by a fine or restriction of liberty, or arrest, or imprisonment for up to five years.
