“STT’s decision is only a suggestion to the prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor’s office will make the final decision whether everything has been completed, whether all the interviews have been done, whether there is enough evidence to support their claim that they can refuse to open a pre-trial investigation. We will wait for the decision of the General Prosecutor’s Office”, said NSGK member D. Gaižauskas to Eltai.

According to him, it is also very important to find out whether the STT proposes not to start a pre-trial investigation because no signs of a criminal offense have been identified or because there is not enough evidence to prove it.

The opposition parties claim that the shadow cast by possible corruption in the national defense system is still not dispelled, therefore they propose to stop the activities of the Seimas NSGK. According to them, no one can be sure that there are no persons involved in corruption currently working in the committee.

ELTA reminds that STT refused to open a pre-trial investigation into possible corruption in the national defense system. This decision will still have to be evaluated by the General Prosecutor’s Office, which commissioned the service.

Questions about non-transparent processes arose after the outgoing former Minister of National Defense, Arvydas Anušauskas, stated that during his work at the ministry, he encountered “cases of gross interference in public procurement”. The president considered such hints of the minister as very serious and soon met with the leadership of the STT and the General Prosecutor’s Office.

After the sensational statements, STT interviewed A. Anušauskas himself, former chairman of the National Security and Defense Committee of the Seimas (NSGK) and current minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas, member of the Seimas R. Lopatas and former Deputy Minister of National Defense Vilias Semeškas, Minister of Economy and Innovation Minister Aušrinė Armonaitė.
