29 years old Eimantas Stanionis (14-0-0, 9 KOs) will return to the ring after a 2-year hiatus. WBA regular welterweight world champion from Lithuania on May 4. (early in the morning of May 5, Lithuanian time) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (USA) will fight against the 37-year-old Venezuelan Gabriel Maestre (6-0-1, 5 KOs).

“I have to do my job in the ring. I can’t “lose my head” just because I haven’t fought for a long time, I want to vent my sports anger and prove something to someone. I have to fight smart. I trained hard, I didn’t cheat and after training in the locker room I could always tell myself that I did everything that was planned. I didn’t drink wine, I didn’t smoke weed, so everything should be fine. Everyone talks about me being “rusty” after such a long break, but I don’t feel that way yet. We’ll see what happens when the fight starts,” E. Stanionis told FightHype.

The Lithuanian signed a one-time contract with PBC for the fight with G. Maestre. After this fight, E. Stanionis will be a free agent again and will wait for offers from agencies. The Lithuanian noted that the most important thing for him is to fight as often as possible and he will take this into account when considering proposals. E. Stanionis also wishes that some agency would decide to organize his fight in Lithuania.

“The most important thing for me is to fight as often as possible. When there are no fights, I go crazy. I love this sport and I want to fight. Another thing I desire is a fight in my homeland. We have a big arena. I think we could collect it in full – 15-18 thousand. people. We have never had professional boxing fights of this level in Lithuania. I would love to see this become a reality. I know that Lithuania is a small country, but people would come there and support their relatives, because events of this level are rarely held in Lithuania”, added the champion.
