TOPsport First League 3rd round: a temporary triumvirate and an interrupted striker’s season

TOPsport First League has new leaders. Immediately, three teams overtook the leaders “Riterius” of Vilnius and “Be1” of Jonava, but these changes are temporary. Meanwhile, there is only one participant at the bottom of the table who has not yet scored points.

Operation. The youth of the Baltic Football Academy have something to celebrate for the second weekend in a row. In the 3rd round, the people of Vilnius beat Kretinga “Minija” 1:0. The people of Žemaitsa blocked the guests’ goal on their own field, but they did not break through the defense of “Vilnius BFA”. Having withstood the onslaught, the people of Vilnius began to bite themselves. 69th min. one of their attacks ended with a goal by 17-year-old Neds Garbaliauskas. Soon the visitors could increase the lead, but at the end of the match, the hosts themselves made their task easier – their Brazilian midfielder Narkas Junior was sent off.

Martinas Perveinis could not help the “Vilnius BFA” team in this match. The promising 20-year-old striker, who belonged to Italian Serie A club Salernitana last year, has been sidelined for a long time. The Lithuanian youth national team candidate was injured already in the first match of the season against Panevėžys “Ekranus”. After playing just 14 minutes this season, M. Perveinis suffered a serious injury. This week in Kaunas, he underwent cruciate knee ligament surgery.

Selections. Even playing without one of their guides, the players of “Vilnius BFA” rose to the top three with 7 points. Klaipėda’s “Neptūnas” and Plungė’s “Babrungas” are also lined up in it. Both these teams had to sweat a lot in the 3rd round to defend their home fortresses. Klaipėda citizens only in the 87th minute. snatched a victory against “Kaunas Žalgiris” B, when after a long shot the visitors’ goalkeeper did not register the ball, which Martynas Velyvis directed into the goal. This striker, not the first to excel in the last moments, barely had time to warm up his legs after being substituted.

The confrontation between “Babrung” and “Šiauliai” B was even more productive – 3:2. Plungiškiai, after the Japanese Shodai Tomemori’s goal in the second round in a row, and the Portuguese Aires Sousa’s goal, already in the 9th minute. was ahead 2-0. However, the people of Šiauliai restored the intrigue and in the last half hour had a chance to take away at least a point, but the people from Plungi managed to keep the lead until the end of the match.

The current leaders – Vilnius “Knights” and Jonavas “Be1” did not compete at the weekend, because a number of their representatives wore the shirts of the Lithuanian boys’ (under 19) national team. The latter is participating in the elite selection stage of the 2025 European U19 Championship in the Netherlands. Three more players from these clubs represented the Lithuanian youth (under 21) national team in the European Championship qualifiers in Wales and Denmark.

The first ones. Midfielder Ugnius Avizovas already in the 3rd minute of the match. scored the only goal of the match, which determined the victory of Kėdainiai “Nevėžio” 1:0 against the doubles of “Panevėžio”. For the 18-year-old from Kedai, it was the first goal in his career representing the adult team. It is interesting that “Nevėžis” registered as many as 22 football players for this match. True, despite 11 substitutes, the coach of the Kėdainiai team, Oleg Lutkov, used only three substitutions, two of which entered the field in the last minutes.

Garliava’s representative Marius Barila also scored his first career goal in TOPsport First League. The accurate shot of the 18-year-old guard also brought victory to his team, which defeated Panevėžys “Ekran” 1:0 at home.

In the 3rd round, the first point in the league was scored by the Kaunas district “Hegelmann” B footballers, however, only the “Tauro” team scored in Taurage – one each into their own goal and into the opponent’s goal – 1:1.
