In cooperation with the officers of the State Border Guard Service, a “Chrysler” car was stopped for inspection at the Kalvarija border point. The minivan was driven by a 40-year-old resident of Kaunas district. During the inspection of the vehicle, the officers’ attention was drawn to the gas equipment in it, although the car is powered by gasoline. Normally, when installing a gas system in a car, one gas cylinder is used, but forensics found as many as four.
During a thorough inspection, after dismantling carefully installed cylinders of gas equipment, hiding places with narcotic substances – cannabis were discovered. In the shadow market, the value of such a quantity can exceed 110,000 euros. The officers found more than 3,000 euros in cash, suspected to be intended for criminal activities, in a case intended for keeping glasses in the car’s cabin.
During the search, about 1,000 pieces were found at the detainee’s home. electronic cigarette tips with liquids suspected to contain tetrahydrocannabinol. 450 units were also found and taken. unused electronic cigarette batteries, containers with unclear liquid residues, cooking, mixing and storage tools.
The suspect is known to law enforcement and has been convicted abroad for similar activities. The man is suspected of smuggling a very large amount of narcotic or psychotropic substances and illegally possessing a very large amount of them. The maximum penalty is imprisonment for up to 18 years.
After evaluating the submitted data, the Court imposed the strictest preventive measure on the man suspected of illegal “business” – arrest (3 months).
