“In response to your inquiry, we would like to inform you that STT, after evaluating the information, made a decision to refuse to open a pre-trial investigation regarding possible corruption in the national defense system. Currently, the resolution is submitted to the General Prosecutor’s Office, which must assess its legality and reasonableness. When the prosecutor’s office makes a decision, more details about the decision will be provided,” – Delphi STT reported.

Doubts arose after Anušauskas’ statements

“Yes, I had to slam the door on companies that tried to bribe national defense workers by offering illegal rewards. But they found an open door in the Seimas, and KAM immediately received proposals and letters from politicians “to talk more”. In some cases of particularly gross interference in public procurements, the STT had to be informed, and some tenders were simply terminated due to inflated prices. The prime minister supported all these anti-corruption activities”, said A. Anušauskas.

“Basically yes. Imagine if we see an apparition and we don’t stop it, we don’t say stop, we don’t do anything in this place. Consequently, you are not allowing appearances, but you can create serious risks for national defense and not only reputational risks, but also vulnerabilities.

This place really didn’t want to do that, so our gradually developing anti-corruption program, agenda gave its results. They are not always so tangible, which can be felt, that’s why they say, you know, you didn’t have pre-trial investigations, it didn’t give results.

No, that’s exactly what it did. Actions were taken, but in my opinion, the most important thing was that the national defense system would not get involved in any scandals, we would prevent it, we would not allow any even minimal things to develop into such things, where we then use STT to listen, operate on the tumor. We wanted such a phenomenon to not affect us in any way”, – said A. Anušauskas in the DELFI TV program “Iš šeše”.

“Now you want: point your finger, say the names. We have done our work, let other services continue to work,” he said.

STT began to clarify the situation. The service interviewed A. Anušauskas, Member of the Seimas Raimundas Lopatas, former Deputy Minister of National Defense, MP Vilias Semeškas, new Minister of National Defense (at the time of the survey he was a candidate for this position, author) Laurynas Kasčiūnas, Minister of Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.
