“The former military commander Pocius is a very natural candidate, although it was an open question. From my point of view, there are always those who are willing and able to take such positions, but the faction entrusted this responsible position to colleague A. Poci”, R. Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė said to Elta.
According to the elder of the conservative faction, it is planned that both the NSGK committee and the Seimas itself will decide on the candidacy of A. Pociaus on Thursday.
“The issue should be resolved today,” she assured.
For his part, the conservative vice-chairman of the Seimas, Jurgis Razma, assured that the coalition partners, who previously mentioned the possibility of delegating their representative to the post of NSGK chairman, did not make such a request.
“Apparently, such intentions have been abandoned and we have not received such requests to give up this position,” he assured.
J. Razma is convinced that the accumulated experience of A. Pocias is suitable for the position of NSGK chairman.
“He has enough experience as a politician, he is a member of this committee, he knows the issues that are the most important in the committee. It is necessary to keep in mind his experience as the head of the army, being in a representative office abroad.
It is hard for us to easily imagine any other member of the Seimas who could match such characteristics,” said the politician.
ELTA reminds that former NSGK chairman Laurynas Kasčiūnas officially took over the position of Minister of National Defense from Arvydas Anušauskas on Tuesday.
A. Anušauskas submitted his letter of resignation to the Head of the Government in mid-March. Later, after meeting with the president, A. Anušauskas admitted that he had received an unexpected offer from the head of the government to leave the position of the minister of national defense to another politician, and to take his position as the chairman of the committee in the Seimas. A. Anušauskas testified that he refused such a casting.
On the same day, the Prime Minister also provided more information about the changes in the Government. According to her, the resignation of A. Anušauskas is related to the expectation to do “even more and faster” during the remaining term of the Government.
