Sick and nursing benefits

The sickness benefit per month cannot be less than 11.64 percent of the country’s VDU, which was valid in the previous quarter before the date of determination of temporary incapacity for work. Thus, from the beginning of April to the end of June, the minimum sickness benefit cannot be lower than 244.13 euros per month (it was 233.49 euros) or 11.68 euros per day. This is relevant for people with the lowest income from work. The minimum benefit is paid if the amount of the benefit calculated based on the insured income of the resident is lower than the minimum limit.

The maximum compensatory earnings for the calculation of sickness benefits cannot exceed the amount of the VMU of the 2nd country, which was valid in the previous quarter before the day of incapacity for work. Thus, in the second quarter of the year, the maximum sickness benefit cannot be higher than 2,603.17 euros per month (it was 2,489.72 euros). This is relevant for residents who earn the highest salaries.

The maximum monthly sickness benefit for caring for a family member increased from EUR 2,645.38 to EUR 2,765.92, and the daily benefit increased from EUR 126.57 to EUR 132.34.

Benefits for raising children

The minimum limit of maternity, paternity and childcare benefits is equal to 8 basic social benefits. This ensures that maternity, paternity, and child care benefits are higher than the amount of minimum consumption needs valid at the time of payment of the benefits. The amounts of the basic social benefit that were valid in the last month until the day of the right to receive the benefit are applied. Thus, if a person becomes entitled to maternity, paternity or childcare benefits in April, May or June this year, the minimum limit for these benefits will be 440 euros.

The amounts of the maximum child care benefits will vary not only depending on the income of the people receiving them, but also on whether the looked after children were born before 31 December 2022 or 1 January 2023. and later, since the payment procedure and amounts of child care benefits have changed since January 2023.

When a person acquires the right to childcare allowance for children born in 2023 and 2024 in the second quarter of this year, the maximum allowance for two non-transferable months will be 3,279.79 or 150 euros more than in the first quarter of the year.

If you choose to receive childcare allowance until the child turns 18 months, it increases by 109 euros, from 2,407.08 euros to 2,516.76 euros per month.

If you choose to receive the benefit until the child is 24 months old, the maximum monthly benefit increased from 1,805.31 euros to 1,887.57 euros in the first year of raising a child, and from 1,203.54 euros to 1,258.38 euros in the second.

The maximum paternity benefit for a full month will be €3,254.17 from April, an increase of more than €142 compared to the previous quarter.

Benefits for the unemployed

The unemployment benefit consists of two parts – variable and permanent, the size of which depends on the minimum monthly wage (MMA). The constant part of the unemployment benefit is equal to 23.27 percent. the month for which the benefit is paid, valid MMA.

In 2024, the MMA amounts to 924 euros, so the constant part of the unemployment benefit is 215.01 euros – it remains the same as in the first quarter of the year.

The variable part of the unemployment benefit depends on the person’s insured income.

For example, if a person registers with the Employment Service in April 2024, the constant part of his unemployment benefit will amount to 215.01 euros, and the variable part will be calculated based on the average insured income from the beginning of September 2021 to the end of February 2024.

If the average monthly insured income of such a person was 800 euros, the unemployment benefit paid in April-June will amount to 525.33 euros, from July to September – 463.25 euros, from October to December – 401.17 euros.

Partial unemployment benefit is calculated based on the calendar days of the month for which it is paid.

The maximum unemployment benefit cannot be higher than 58.18 percent. VDU, which was valid for the previous calendar quarter from the day of acquiring the unemployed status. So, for people who will be unemployed from April 1. until June 30, the maximum unemployment benefit is 1220.21 euros.
