As reported by the prosecutor’s office on Wednesday, Kaunas district prosecutor Jaunutis Vailionis submitted an appeal to the Kaunas district court due to the fact that the court of first instance, which convicted the residents of Druskininkai municipality for illegal enrichment, did not impose confiscation of property against them.

The prosecutor asks the court to confiscate the immovable property of the spouses and the value of the movable property registered in the name of their family members at the time of acquisition as a result of the criminal act.

According to the criminal case, from February 2015 to June 2019, the convicts acquired and owned property worth more than 900 MGL, knowing that the property could not be acquired with legal income. The husband and wife bought an apartment, built a house, bought two cars and a motorcycle with the illegally obtained income, which they registered in the names of family members.

During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that during the mentioned period, the expenses of the spouses exceeded the income by almost 260 thousand. euros.

During the search, the officers of the Criminal Police Economic Crimes Investigation Department of the Chief Police Commissariat of Alytus County, who conducted the investigation, also found and seized the silencer and ammunition of a hunting weapon illegally kept by a man convicted twice for other crimes.

The Alytus district court found the married couple guilty. The man was fined 20,000 for illegal enrichment and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. A fine of 140 euros. The previously unconvicted spouse will have to pay 5 thousand to the state budget. A fine of 700 euros.

In the appeal filed on Monday by the prosecutor J. Vailionis, the higher instance court is only asked to apply the confiscation of the property, leaving the decision of the first instance court unchanged in other parts.
