The police arrested A. Abromavičius in the Naujoi Feri microdistrict, he was caught with cannabis plants and all cultivation equipment. A 57-year-old man was charged with growing marijuana and was remanded in custody.

A little later, A. Abromavičius appeared remotely at Liverpool Crown Court, and during the hearing he was assisted by a Russian interpreter.

Prosecutor Paul Blasber presented the facts of the case to the court, who told how on February 19 of this year. police arrived at a building on Onslow Street in New Ferry.

According to the prosecutor, officers heard a noise coming from inside the building. When they got inside, they found a large tent between the living room and the kitchen, and A. Abromavičius himself was sitting on the couch next to it.

During the search, it was found that 70 cannabis plants were grown in the person’s home, which were confiscated along with the growing equipment. A. Abromavičius was arrested and interrogated, but he did not answer any of the questions put to him.

The prosecutor testified that because the plants were only found a little over a month ago, the court had no data on the street value of the narcotics.

Mr Blasber revealed that the accused had no previous convictions.

Agreed to commit a crime

A. Abromavičius’ lawyer Anna Duke mentioned that the man pleaded guilty – in her opinion, such an action should be appreciated. She added that he came to the United Kingdom because of his wife, who was seriously ill, and because he could not work in Europe and wanted to receive free health care, which he had to pay for in Lithuania.

However, the court found out that A. Abromavičius agreed to participate in criminal activities even before he arrived in the UK, reports the Wirral Globe news portal.

A. Abromavičius’ lawyer explained that he was arrested from the moment of his arrest. Also, he doesn’t speak English and has been rejected by his family.

“He knows that an arrest must be followed by a prison sentence. I am asking the court to make it as small as possible,” she added.

Before announcing the sentence, Judge Stuart Driver of the Liverpool Crown Court reminded that A. Abromavicius had planned to carry out criminal activities while he was still in prison, so he came to the UK precisely for this purpose.

“The sentence was reduced because the person pleaded guilty, but it cannot be suspended because an appropriate sentence can only be served by an immediate custodial sentence,” the judge added.

A. Abromaviciis, who does not have a permanent place of residence, was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment. The Lithuanian citizen will serve half of it in a prison, after which he will be released under supervision.

The court also approved the order to confiscate and destroy the cannabis plants and related equipment.
