On Liars’ Day, April 1, MadeinVilnius.lt editorial team joked that a tram line will be installed in Vilnius. After this publication, a huge discussion started on the portal and in the social network. Some Internet users thought that the tram was necessary, others – that it was not so much, because it would be a waste of money.
Vilnius mayor Valdas Benkunskas has mentioned many times that currently Vilnius does not need a tram and it could be a matter of the future.
“First of all, because we live in a really small city of 400 square kilometers and we have less than 600,000 people. population. It’s the arithmetic here that prevents us from having either a tram or a subway as a public transport option today. Our passenger flow does not allow us to have those vehicles, because the cost of one pass should be covered from the same taxpayers, from budget money,” Valdas Benkunskas said a year ago.
We want to ask you again, do you really need a tram in Vilnius?
Do you really need a tram in Vilnius?
No need, trolleybuses and buses are enough
