During the first two days, 1,659 people registered at the military commandant’s offices in peacetime, reports the Ministry of National Defense (KAM).

It is announced that the largest number of military commandants registered in the Vilnius region during peacetime, 885 people wanted to contribute to state defense there, 796 of them in the city of Vilnius. In the Kaunas region, 348 people registered for commandant offices, 261 of them in Kaunas.

In the Klaipėda region, 138 people join commandant offices, of which 114 are in Klaipėda. In the Alytus region, 100 civic-minded people filled in applications to join the commandant offices, in the Šiauliai region – 92, and in the Panevėžys region – 37 people.

From the total number of registered people, 456 people or 27.5 percent have basic military training. Among those who registered at military commandant’s offices during peacetime, 1,032 people (62.2 percent of those registered) have higher education.

Commandant units in peacetime will be filled with soldiers of professional military service, assigned conscripts of the prepared reserve, commandant riflemen of the Lithuanian Rifle Association and civilians. In peacetime, their military training will be ensured by the National Defense Volunteer Force (KASP).

KAM notes that all patriotic citizens can sign up for commandant offices. People of all specialties and education who want to prepare for national defense and acquire basic military knowledge and skills are welcome at the commandant’s offices.

Registration for commandant offices will continue until August 31. It is planned that military training will begin in the military units of the military commandantships already in October.
