Giedrius and Mantas have known each other for 25 years – they studied acting together and lived in the same room in a dormitory.
“Mantas is my first roommate,” said G. Savickas.
The actors recalled a funny story of how they moved from a dormitory to a slightly better apartment. Their colleague Arūnas Sakalauskas used to live there, and after living there for a year, they owed the owner of the apartment.
“We haven’t paid utility bills for a year. We thought that maybe we wouldn’t need it,” smiled the presenter of the show “Eatable or nevalgoma”, remembering his student days.
The actors tasted sandwiches smeared in three ways – English, French and Scandinavian. The English sandwich reminded M. Vaitiekūnas of his 1996 visit to England. According to him, the English don’t eat sandwiches for breakfast – it’s more of a lunch, lunch food. The actor remembered the breakfast cereal he saw there for the first time and laughed that he didn’t even know how to eat it back then.
When asked if he is a picky eater, the guest did not hide the fact that he did not eat many products in his childhood and adolescence.
“I didn’t eat onions, I only started eating herring in the twelfth grade. Dad took me hunting. In order not to embarrass him, I took bacon in my mouth for the first time. I started eating tomatoes in the first year or in the twelfth grade,” said M. Vaitiekūnas.
While spreading sandwiches, Giedrius and Mantas shared common memories. The host of “Eatable or not edible” revealed that during their long friendship, there were two incidents when he was very jealous of his colleague.
“We were just living in a dormitory. The poor people arrived with only a suitcase and that’s it. Already in the first semester, Mantas was filming in a movie. It was 1998, as I recall now, although he probably doesn’t remember. Mantas filmed for ten days and received 600 litas for each day, 6000 litas in total. And he bought a mink, a phone and became an Omnitel subscriber. There were three cars in the yard – a fire engine, an ambulance and a Manto,” G. Savickas laughed.
The second incident that made Giedrius jealous happened in the same year and was related to food. Once he returned, he asked the roommate if he was hungry. Mantas replied that he had already eaten not just anything, but pizza, which was exotic for those times. The actor tasted this 1998 delicacy while filming the legendary video clip.
