Not everyone who saw these works of the photo artist printed on plastic would at first not really believe that it was his work.

R. Požerskis, who became famous not only in Lithuania, but also far beyond its borders, started creating in the Soviet era in 1974, perhaps his most famous photo cycle “Atlaidai”, this time he tried to draw attention to what surrounds us every day with his philosophical works. It’s noise and rubbish…

“And they are really endless, so many of them are thrown into our heads and minds every day from everywhere, so we have to find the strength to get rid of them as soon as possible. It’s a pity, but also in art…”, R. Požerskis lamented at the opening of the exhibition.

Distorts the nature of art

According to the photographer, such creations of aggressive media and artists today have a huge impact on the perception of society’s values. And we must find the strength to resist all of this, otherwise the further we go, the more we will sink to the bottom, from which it will be very difficult to rise.

Drowning in the pits of noise and garbage, art deforms, loses the orientation of time and meaning. It distorts the nature of art.

“When the noises and liquid garbage fall, you become part of the art garbage dump,” says R. Požerskis.

When selecting the works for the exhibition, the author selected and exhibited photographs and a video piece created using the 8 mm film material he shot in 1967-1973.

“And Romuald managed to perfectly reflect the chosen subject with these works,” said photography theorist Tomas Pabedinskas.

R. Požerskis is characterized not only by his creative maturity and unique philosophy towards the world around us, but also by his productivity. When asked about this, albeit small, personal exhibition, the author wondered.

“I really didn’t count, many, many. In Lithuania alone, about twenty every year. And where else is abroad…”, the great photographer smiled.
