The wreckage of the rocket that was found after January 2 of this year. attacks against the Ukrainian city were from North Korea’s Hwasong-11 series ballistic missiles.

Russia’s use of these weapons is in direct violation of Security Council sanctions that impose an arms embargo on North Korea.

Three UN sanctions monitors went to Ukraine earlier this month to inspect the wreckage and found no evidence that the missile was made by Russia.

According to a 32-page report submitted to one of the Security Council’s committees, experts confirmed that “by 2024 January 2 Missile debris found in Kharkiv is North Korea’s Hwasong-11 missile and indicates a violation of the arms embargo to and from North Korea.

Sanctions monitors noted that they “cannot independently determine where and who launched the missile.” However, information provided by the Ukrainian side “shows that it was launched from Russian territory.”

The fact that Russia used ballistic missiles made by North Korea against Kharkiv was also confirmed by the international organization “Conflict Armament Research” (CAR), which monitors the supply of weapons.

North Korea’s Hwasong-11 missile is actually a copy of the 9M723 ballistic missile of the Russian Iskander system, but it has a number of technical and visual differences. Obvious among them are the structural differences in the tail section.

Since 2006 North Korea is subject to UN Security Council sanctions for its nuclear and ballistic missile tests, which include a ban on the import and export of military technology, Militarnyj writes.
