A 101-year-old woman was mistaken for a baby while waiting for a flight: this has happened to her several times | Life

--

Flight crew members were left baffled when a 101-year-old woman turned up while expecting a baby on the flight.

Centenarian Patricia has had this problem twice when flying with American Airlines, but says the staff have been helpful and pleasant each time. “It was funny that they thought I was just a little kid and I’m an old lady!” she quipped.

The problem appears to be with the airline’s reservation system. Although Patricia and her daughter enter the correct 1922 when booking flights. year of birth, the system still indicates 2022, the BBC reported.

Luckily, both times she and the flight crew just had a little laugh and didn’t cause any trouble getting on the plane.

However, this does not mean that everything is smooth sailing. The first time this issue arose, airport staff were waiting for a baby to be carried, so they didn’t have a wheelchair ready to help the old woman get on the plane. This meant her daughter Kris ended up having to carry her luggage and other belongings to the gate, even though she was hoping for help.

This incident appears to be recurring despite the centenary being booked for an adult ticket.

While in the old lady’s case she had no problem getting on the flight due to this misunderstanding, it’s worth noting that in the UK you should double-check any booking details or you may have to pay hefty fees for last-minute changes.

For example, if you discover that your last name is misspelled, most airlines will charge a fee to correct the error, which can range from £55 to £115 (€64 to €135) depending on who you’re flying with.
