“V. Putin has no right to rely on I. Kant.” Despite this, he continues to appropriate I. Kant and his works,” said O. Šolcas.

The chancellor emphasized that I. Kant’s ideas about human rights and dignity, as well as his considerations about peace and war, are in no way compatible with the actions of the Russian president, both towards the citizens of his country and Ukraine.

Russia’s actions in Ukraine, according to O. Šolcs, radiate such a desire to destroy that many people in the 21st century In Europe you can hardly understand.

Speaking about the restriction of the rights of Russian citizens, he pointed to censorship, disinformation and surveillance.

The politician also emphasized that V. Putin’s statements, in which he relies on the works of I. Kant, contradict his own behavior.

“I. Kant strongly spoke out against the military solution of any cross-border problems. And in this part we try to follow his teachings. I think that I. Kant’s vision not only can, but must be realized in our days,” he quoted the words of the Russian president, spoken at the unveiling of the memorial plaque dedicated to I. Kant on the wall of Kaliningrad University.

According to the German chancellor, V. Putin, who met with the students of the Kaliningrad region this year, interpreted the philosopher’s teaching in a new way.

“He is a fundamental thinker, and his call to live according to your reason is more relevant today than ever. For Russia, this means following its own national interests. That’s how we try to behave”, O. Šolcas once again quoted V. Putin.

The German politician called this attitude towards I. Kant absurd, since the philosopher clearly spoke out against state interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

In response to O. Šolc’s remarks, the Kaliningrad region administration stated that no one has done as much for the perpetuation of I. Kant’s memory as Russia and Kaliningrad, “RIA Novosti” informed.

“Our country and region contributed the most to the perpetuation of the philosopher and his teachings. I want to remind you that I. Kant died as a subject of the Russian Empire”, said the governor’s press representative Dmitry Lyskov.

According to him, this shows the philosopher’s attitude towards Russia more clearly than any statements of all possible German politicians.
