“There is a lot written about this topic in the media, but we cannot comment in more detail, confirm or deny such assessments. We have no data about the event that took place during the NATO summit in Vilnius,” states the comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was sent to Elta in writing by Asta Galdikaitė, Head of the Public Information Department of the Department of Strategic Communication and Public Relations.

However, the ministry points out that “in the methodology of the Russian security and intelligence services, various measures can be applied and used, (…) to influence and intimidate the opponent”.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Department of State Security (VSD) announced that it currently has no comments on the information that appeared in the press regarding the use of the weapon that causes the “Havana syndrome”.

ELTA reminds that a joint investigation by “The Insider”, “Der Spiegel” and “60 Minutes” published on Monday revealed that an officer of the United States Department of Defense was attacked with a weapon causing “Havana syndrome”. According to the publication, this happened during the NATO summit held in Vilnius last July. The study also indicates that the “Havana syndrome” is linked to the weapons used by the Russian military intelligence unit 29155.

The Pentagon confirmed the information, with spokeswoman Sabrina Singh indicating that a Defense Department official developed symptoms similar to those of the “Havana syndrome” during a meeting of the alliance’s leaders.

The “Havana syndrome” is a collective term for symptoms such as headaches, hearing problems, dizziness and nausea, which many US diplomats and their relatives living in the Cuban capital, Havana, have complained about. Similar complaints have been reported from other parts of the world. The mentioned persons stated that their symptoms started after a strange noise or feeling a lot of pressure in the head.
