As reported by Major Katarzyna Zdanowicz, the spokesperson of the Połęk Voivodeship Border Guard Squad, 267 incidents related to attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border were recorded on Thursday. According to her, migrants from the territory of Belarus threw stones and sticks at Polish officials several times.
On Wednesday, 89 attempts to cross the border illegally were recorded. Officers guarding the Polish border in the vicinity of the village of Bialowieza were attacked with burning sticks.
“Burning sticks falling on cars could have caused a fire,” added K. Zdanowicz.
For helping illegal migrants, Polish border guards arrested three people, citizens of Ethiopia, Ukraine and Lithuania, who tried to take foreigners who crossed the border illegally to Western Europe.
Since the beginning of March, the Polish Border Guard Service has registered about 3 thousand. attempts to cross the border illegally, much more than in January and February.
Last year, a 5.5 m high steel barrier was built on the 186 km stretch of the border with Belarus, which is the main element of protecting this border against illegal migration.
