Of particular interest is that the flight involved the 224th Airlift Wing and a cargo plane with tail number RA-82030 – previously targeted by the US Treasury Department for sanctions related to North Korea’s transfer of ballistic missiles. Despite these allegations, the exact nature and timing of such transactions are not disclosed.

The recent flights coincide with rising tensions in the region following North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s ballistic missile test. While the specific cargo carried by the Russian aircraft remains unknown, intelligence reports suggest that short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) may have been carried.

The ability of the An-124 cargo plane to carry large and heavy weapons systems further raises fears about the purpose of these secret flights.

South Korea’s Chosun News TV reported the cargo plane on Saturday, citing an anonymous source from “Korea and US intelligence agencies” — but did not provide details such as model, tail number or time.

The source said that intelligence agencies recorded the plane picking up a 15-meter-long payload, believed to be an SRBM. These were reportedly Hwasong-11 series missiles (KN-23), according to the Defense Blog.
