As summer approaches and the season of trips to warm countries approaches, it is important to update not only clothes, but also cosmetic products. Because after the cold season, it is important to take care of the facial skin and prepare it for sunbathing. “After winter, the skin of many of us is not only dry, but also calloused. Taking into account her condition and type, we have to start preparing her for the environmental stimuli of the warm season now,” says Jelena Liaudinienė, make-up artist of the Mary Kay cosmetics company. What products and facial skin care rituals are necessary to properly prepare for summer?

We will soon be treated to summer weather, but for the skin of the face, it means a time of challenges. It will be affected by direct sunlight, wind, salty sea water and other environmental factors.

“Many people forget to exfoliate their skin during the winter, so spring is the time to remember this action. Scrub is not an everyday product. It is best to use it about twice a week. And if you plan to go to warm countries, it is advised not to do it on the last night, but at least two weeks before departure. After exfoliating the skin, we renew it and prepare it for the next stages of its care. Only when it is properly cleaned, the skin can absorb the vitamin D provided by the sun,” says the make-up artist.

Evenly exfoliated skin should be fully protected. For this, it is necessary to use products with SPF protection.

“Not everyone knows how to use SPF protection correctly. It is important to cover the skin with cream half an hour before going outside. Because during this time the cream begins to work and penetrate the skin. At one time, we need to use an amount of cream about the size of a fifty cent coin for the face and décolleté area and spread it evenly. It’s important to use a stronger protection for these areas than for the rest of the body,” says the Mary Kay makeup artist.

According to J. Liaudinienė, when engaged in active outdoor activities, you should not forget to apply SPF protection and repeatedly: “When sweating, surfing, kitesurfing, etc., the cream washes off. Therefore, it is important to wash off the damaged protective layer and cover the skin with cream again.”

When preparing for summer or traveling to warm countries, it is especially important to moisturize the skin.

“Some SPF products also contain moisturizing components. However, it is important to know that sunscreen cannot be equated with moisturizing face cream. If you have dry skin or a drier skin type, you must use a moisturizer along with SPF sunscreen. One product is not enough. We can only wear pants, but it’s really better to wear panties underneath. It’s the same with moisturizer and SPF sunscreen. First of all, the skin should be moisturized and then covered with products with SPF protection. These tools complement each other and work while performing their functions”, says J. Liaudinienė.

External moisturizers alone are not enough for the skin. To maintain its normal state, it is necessary to consume a lot of water – at least 2 liters on a normal day, and up to 3 liters if the whole day is spent under the hot sun. Because visible dryness can occur not because of the ineffectiveness of facial care products, but because of too little water consumption.

“If a person doesn’t drink enough water, doesn’t use moisturizers, his skin and eyes start to dry, the corners of his lips crack, and the skin around his nails starts to crack.” Therefore, in order for the skin to be fully protected, it is important to use both internal and external moisturizing components”, explains the importance of the balance between drinking water and facial care products, Mary Kay make-up artist J. Liaudinienė.
