The government of Kretinga does not support the plans of the Danish renewable energy company European Energy to build an oil fuel plant in the area.

And the fact that in the village of Auksdi, located in Darbn Seninia, there is no methanol and hydrogen industry, 22 members of the district council voted, one abstained, and there was no one who voted.

Kretinga Mayor Antanas Kalnius told BNS that the council’s decision is a clear political declaration addressed to European Energy and state institutions.

We will open those circles to both the Ministry of the Environment and this company by telling them that, dear ones, we are near the construction of the factory, and we will ask them to stop the environmental impact assessment process, says A. Kalnius.

European Energy has announced its intention to invest about 400 million. The Eur e.methanol and oily hydrogen plant in Lithuania is currently selecting locations in Kretinga and Akmens districts, but it is expected to be finally selected in 2025, and to start operations in 2028.

However, the potential of the new factory in Kretinga and Akmens district communities is worried about the future project, its possible impact on the environment and health.

European Energy is currently conducting an environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the planned project in both Kretinga and Akmen districts, which must be conducted with the participation of Latvian institutions and the public.

The factory will create several dozen new jobs, and the infrastructure of that area and the surrounding area will also be managed during its construction.
