Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, who expressed her condolences on the death of former first lady Alma Adamkienė, says that she earned people’s love by her own respect and gives it to someone else.

“Next to the sadness of the painful loss felt today, the bright memory of Alma Adamkienė is with us and will always remain. Respect for others, benevolence, dedication to the weak are what earned her the admiration and love of many people”, – says I. Šimonytė in a statement issued by the Government on Sunday.

According to her, as the first lady of the state, A. Adamkienė gave these informal duties a dimension of human sensitivity, she tried to pay attention to what was not noticed by everyone and not always, but where there were people who especially needed this attention and an outstretched helping hand.

“I express my sincere condolences for the loss of President Valdas Adamkas and all relatives of Alma Adamkiene,” said Prime Minister I. Šimonytė.

Speaker of the Seimas: A. Adamkienė returned the culture of charity, care and kindness to Lithuania

Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen says that the former first lady Alma Adamkienė returned to Lithuania the culture of charity, care and kindness.

On Sunday, she expressed her condolences on the death of the spouse of outgoing president Valdos Adamkaus.

“We have lost a particularly bright personality who had an unconditionally open heart for everyone. A. Adamkienė returned to Lithuania the culture of charity, care and kindness, which showed how much we can achieve together,” said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

“We are grateful to her for the lessons of wisdom, elegance, femininity and restraint, for the example of special love and sensitive devotion to the family. We will miss the warmth of A. Adamkiene, with which she enveloped every person in Lithuania,” she said.

In the hour of loss, the Speaker of the Seimas wishes President V. Adamkas and his relatives endurance and strength of spirit.

A. Adamkienė died at the age of 97, recently her health was very weak, she was treated in the hospital more than once.

The Presidency announced the death of A. Adamkiene on Sunday.
