After the Lithuanian Cup competition, depending on the results shown in Trakai, two or three more crews will be selected and will participate in the final Olympic Games selection competition on May 8-9. in Hungary.
Two-seater canoe rowers Henrikas Žustautas and Vadimas Korobov will definitely participate in the Olympic selection. H. Žustautas and V. Korobov covered the 500 m distance in 1 minute. 48.572 sec. and overtook the closest pursuers by 2.373 seconds.
“Before this season, we participated in four training camps, more than usual. A lot of work has been put in, a lot of sweat has been shed, but our performance in the Olympic selection will depend on the weather. We both row from one side. If there is a wind from the left, we will need to steer more than row. We will become uncompetitive because it is physically impossible to match the competition at this level. Therefore, it is very important that there is no wind from the left and we can show everything we can”, said H. Žustautas.
“We are the only ones in the world who row from one side at this level. Everything will depend on the weather conditions. Only one boat is qualified for the Olympics, and many strong doubles from different countries of the world do not yet have Olympic tickets. We have already mastered the 500-meter distance, but there are no limits to improvement. We really want to get to the Olympic Games and we will fight with all our might for the Olympic ticket”, said V. Korobov.
In the Lithuanian Cup, the duo of H. Žustautos and V. Korobov also won the double canoe 200 m event, covering the distance in 39.56 seconds. H. Žustautas became the winner of the single canoe 200 m distance, beating V. Korobova, who finished in second place, by 0.399 seconds.
Titled competitors stood at the starting line in the 200 m singles kayak competition. I. Navakauskas, who became the winner, covered the distance in 36.157 seconds. and surpassed the second-placed A. Seja by just 0.592 seconds.
Viktoras Čaplinskij won the Lithuanian Cup in the single kayak 500 m competition, covering the distance in 1 minute. 45.418 sec. A. Olijniks was unbeaten in the 1000m single-person kayak race. Distance in 3 min. 57.333 sec. after beating A. Olijniks, he overtook the closest pursuer Ričardas Nekriošiai by 3.389 seconds.
In the women’s competition, Gabriele Čerepokaitė became the winner in even three distances. She won the 200m single sculls (54.061 sec) and the 500m single sculls (2min 34.771 secs). G. Čerepokaitė won another cup together with Vytautas Gauryte in the 500 m double canoe competition (2 min. 20.451 sec.).
