In NBA history, no team has ever won a series after losing the first three games. There have been 151 such cases so far.
The Lakers will begin their “Mission Impossible” Saturday night into Sunday when Game 4 of the series returns to Los Angeles.
In total, the Nuggets have outscored their rivals from Los Angeles 10 times in a row. It’s James’ longest losing streak against one team in his 21-year career.
After squandering a 20-point lead in the second meeting and falling in the last second on Jamal Murray’s shot, the Lakers started the third game with energy, scoring the first 8 points of the game and winning the first half 33-23.
In the second half, the home team had a 12-point lead, but the Nuggets, the NBA champions, cut it a bit before the long break – 49:53.
Denver finally took the initiative after a long hiatus. The guests tied the score at 55-55 after a long time, and Michael Porter soon put his team ahead with a three-pointer – 58-55.
Aaron Gordon, who dominated in the third quarter and scored 10 points, helped the Nuggets build a double-digit lead (73-63), and even Anthony Davis, who scored 14 points in the quarter, did not save the Lakers – the hosts trailed 75-83 before the last 12 minutes.
The Lakers were unable to recover in the fourth quarter. The Nuggets blew away all the hopes of the opponents with a 7-0 run, when the difference increased to 104:89, and the “yellows” only slightly reduced the advantage of the opponents in the last minute.
Even four players in the ranks of the Nuggets – A. Gordon, Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and M. Porter – scored 20 or more points each.
The great performance of A. Davis did not save the Lakers either – the tall player scored 33 points (14/23 doubles, 5/7 penalties) and grabbed 15 balls. True, AD was practically invisible again in the fourth quarter, during which he scored only 3 points.
Lakers: Anthony Davis 33 (14/23 doubles, 15 rebounds), LeBron James 26 (11/14 doubles, 1/6 triples, 9 rebounds), Austin Reaves 22 (8/17) .
Nuggets: Aaron Gordon 29 (12/17 doubles, 15 rebounds), Nikola Jokic 24 (9/12 doubles, 15 rebounds, 9 assists), Jamal Murray 22 (8/21 9 assists), Michael Porter 20 (10 rebounds).
