The institutional ranking of all high schools in the country is presented for the eleventh time. According to “Ratings”, the best high schools that select studentsthis year looks like this:

1. Vilnius Lyceum

2. KTU gymnasium

3. Gymnasium of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences

4. Vilnius Jesuit High School

5. Klaipėda “Ažuolyna” high school

The best non-selective high schools looks like this:

1. Klaipėda Lyceum

2. Panevėžys J. Balčikonis high school

3. “Saulė” private gymnasium

4. Kaunas “Saulė” high school

5. Telšiai Žemaitė Gymnasium

The ranking of gymnasiums is based on the state matriculation exams that graduates took in 2023. in the summer, with results. However, gymnasiums received points only for graduates who passed the exams with scores not lower than 36 points.

“Since the VBE results of the Lithuanian language and mathematics become key, we show for the readers’ attention how many tens of graduates of each high school tried to take these exams. If all 100 percent took these exams. graduates, then the gymnasium received 5 points each just for allowing all the gymnasium students to try to pretend that they were not hiding weak students and their unfinished work.

If the graduates did not take these VBE at all, the gymnasium did not receive points. For example, none of the residents of Alytus district took the math exam. Miroslavo, M. Mižigurskajas private, Šalčininkai district. A graduate of Kalesninkai L. Narbutos and Turgelia PK Bzhostovskis high school. By the way, the graduates of the last two high schools did not take the Lithuanian VBE last year either.

In addition, we divided all the exams into three groups based on how important they are for admission to the country’s higher education institutions: for the VBE of Lithuanian language and literature and mathematics, each high school could score a maximum of 16 points each, for English language, biology and history – 10 points each, and for chemistry, physics, IT and geography – 8 points each”, stated Gintaras Sarafinas and Jonė Kučinskaitė, representatives of the magazine “Reitingai”.

The analysis of “Reitingai” shows that in the absolute majority of high schools, from one tenth to one half of all graduates do not take the state matriculation exams in Lithuanian language and literature and mathematics, which have become mandatory since this year.

“There are 360 high schools in Lithuania – all 100 percent. of graduates took the state matriculation exam in mathematics last year only in 9 gymnasiums. I don’t know what those young people are thinking if they don’t have the results of the state matriculation exams in mathematics and Lithuanian,” J. Kučinskaitė thought.

“If we look at the year 2023, out of 27,479 high school graduates, only 16,520 (that is, 60.12 percent of all twelfth graders) took the VBE in mathematics, and 17,362 (that is, 63.15 percent of all high school graduates) took the Lithuanian language VBE. . Others didn’t even try to take these exams, which have become mandatory for everyone seeking higher education since this year, whether at their own expense or at a state-financed place of study.

For graduates who have graduated from high school without taking state matriculation exams, and often school exams as well, the high school graduation certificate is just a piece of paper that they “passed the course”.

According to the data of the National Education Agency, as many as 5945 or 30 percent. all young people who graduated from gymnasiums in 2022-2023 did not enroll anywhere (or were not accepted). The statistics of previous years are similar. It is important that Lithuanian language and mathematics VBE are often not considered by a large part of the students of larger schools”, the representatives of the magazine pointed out.

True, according to “Reitingai” journalists, in 2023 and the analysis of VBE results of previous years show that many small high schools prepare graduates for state matriculation exams more successfully than some large high schools.

“But politicians are not interested in this – the reform will continue.” Here, Varėna district’s Merkinės Vincas Krėvės gymnasium released a program of only 16 graduates last year. But in the ranking of high schools, it is 35th among 360 high schools in the country.

Last year, in this gymnasium, all graduates took the VBE of the Lithuanian language. And this tiny gymnasium was 13th in the country in the subject ranking of gymnasiums (December 2023), according to the discipline of teaching the Lithuanian language. VBE of mathematics was also held by all Merkinians. And this dwarf high school is 56th in the country in terms of the mathematics achievements of its graduates.

Alternatively, Kvėdarna Kazimieros Jauniaus Gymnasium in Šilalė district is also among the top 100 gymnasiums in the country. Out of 26 graduates, even 25 from Kvėdarniški took VBE in Lithuanian language and literature, and 23 in mathematics.

According to the results of the subject rankings of the Lithuanian language (December 2023), this high school was 54th in the country, and according to the subject ranking of mathematics – 107th. But it is not known whether it will retain the status of a high school, because it does not have the 21st future eleventh grade,” the ratings indicated. compilers

“We would like to remind you that it is not possible to compare the points collected by state and non-state universities, as they were evaluated separately.

There is a fierce battle between the state universities that took the second to fifth places. These universities are putting in a lot of effort in various evaluated planes. And this is useful for applicants and students. (…)

It is important to emphasize that the employability of many high school graduates improved significantly nine months after graduation. Most universities in 2023 the number of graduates of the program who did not find a job after 9 months after graduation is less than one percent,” writes “Reitingai”.

LSMU alumni receive the highest salary – 3,520 euros, and among private universities – ISM – 3,464 euros.

“When assessing the scientific quality of universities, we relied on the scientific activity of Lithuanian universities in 2022, carried out by the Lithuanian Science Council (LMT). with the results of the formal assessment. Traditionally, we also assessed how many representatives of the academic staff of each university, who are currently teaching at the university, have received national art or art prizes in the past year.

Well, Vilnius University stands out the most in terms of scientific knowledge. According to the third criterion – students and studies – two specialized higher schools are leading: VDA and LMTA. In the criterion of internationality, Vilnius tech leads, second – LSU. According to the criterion of academic staff, VU and VDU stand out the most”, wrote representatives of “Reitingai”.

Colleges are ranked similarly to universities.

“The biggest innovation in the college ranking is the return of graduate salaries after a break of several years.

We gave it one-fifth (20%) of the total weightage of the college ranking. And this tangible indicator, which shows how much and how the alumnus of each college is valued in the market, had a significant impact on the final placement of the colleges in the ranking table,” said the compilers of “Ratings”.
