As previously announced by the Lithuanian army, the curfew exercises will take place in the territories of Viršuliškii and Aukštųi Panerii in Vilnius and Palemons in Kaunas.

Commandant units together with the Lithuanian Police will carry out control of the territory, protection of objects, and inspection of transport.

Traffic will not be restricted for residents during the exercise, but there will be real checkpoints of the Lithuanian police and commandant units, where passing vehicles can be stopped, documents and other procedures, usual during traffic police raids, will be checked.

In the designated territory, where the military curfew measures will be implemented, not only transport, but also passers-by may be stopped, documents may be checked, but other real restrictions are not foreseen.

He urges you not to be afraid

At the end of April, Major Donatas Suchockis, chief officer of the Military and Civilian Cooperation Board of the Defense Staff, said that he would not change the normal life of the country’s residents.

“She shouldn’t be scared, it’s more of our internal training. So much so that soldiers will be visible at night from the 7th to the 8th in the designated areas. However, this will not affect either the traffic or the residents’ ability to move,” commented Maj. D. Suchockis.

According to him, together with the police, the army can carry out regular road traffic raids, during which the traffic flow will be stopped and documents will be checked.

“Drivers’ vehicles can be inspected. However, freedom of movement will not be restricted in any other way,” he added.

This will be a part of the largest national exercise “Thunder 2024” taking place in Lithuania, which is called “Thunder Bastion 2024”.

It is intended to train military commandants, to strengthen the interaction of commandants with municipalities, governmental and non-governmental organizations.

The “Thunderstorm 2024” exercises are conducted in order to coordinate the efforts of the army, state institutions, self-government and citizens participating in the State Defense and direct them in the right direction. Mobilization, conscripts, establishment of military commanderies, expansion of the Strategic Command and other actions planned in the exercises lead to one goal – to prepare for the armed defense of the state on a national scale.
