“This is not the interest of the ministry, it is the interest of the entire state. He would like us to look in one direction. From our side, we are doing everything”, said A. Bilotaitė during the press conference held on Monday.
The minister also emphasizes that the municipalities themselves are responsible for the installation of shelters.
“Municipalities know best. And according to legislation, it is stipulated that they must identify shelters on their territory and mark them. In order for that process to move forward, on our behalf, the Department of Fire Protection and Rescue assisted the municipalities. In some municipalities, we see a breakthrough in signs,” she emphasized.
According to A. Bilotaitė, some municipalities have objective reasons why the installation of shelters is slower. However, according to her, there are also those that lack the initiative of the administration.
“There is also a question of leadership here. If, as a leader, civil safety is a priority for you, you really don’t look for reasons why not to do it, but you start to act. Unfortunately, there is no way,” she commented.
In order to strengthen society’s preparedness for possible threats, A. Bilotaitė says that over 3.8 thousand covers.
“We have created a network of shelters in the country completely from scratch. 3.8 thousand, the shelters could accommodate about 1 million. or 36 percent of the country’s population. The process is dynamic,” she emphasized.
“We have to achieve that 40 percent hide in the districts, and 60 percent in the big cities. population. So, on average, about 50 percent. the country’s population must be able to hide,” the minister added.
ELTA reminds that during the LRT radio debate on Monday, President Gitanas Nausėda said that the Minister of the Interior Agnė Bilotaitė has not yet ensured that the process of installing shelters in all municipalities takes place at the same speed. In addition, the head of state assured that he misses the Government’s cooperation with municipalities.
