The investigation is led by the Office of the European Delegated Prosecutors in Lithuania, and is implemented by the Financial Crimes Investigation Service and the European Anti-Fraud Office.

The Financial Crimes Investigation Service reports that a natural person is suspected of fraudulently obtaining more than 500 thousand of European Union budget funds. This person allegedly embezzled the wages and unemployment benefits of non-existent MEP assistants. It is suspected that all this took place between 2014 and 2020.

According to financial crime investigators, after receiving additional data from the European Delegated Prosecutor’s Office in the Kingdom of Belgium and other European Union institutions, on March 26-28 this year. searches were carried out at the residences of natural persons, as well as at the headquarters of the Labor Party, and interviews were conducted.

Allegations have been made against one natural person. From the statements of the Chairman of the Labor Party, Andrias Mazuronis, it can be understood that the investigation is related to the activities of V. Uspaskich, and the politician was forced to suspend his membership in the party.

The European Delegated Prosecutor in charge of the investigation applied to the court for a remand measure – intensive supervision of the suspect, imposing bans on communicating with specific persons.

Vilnius City District Court in 2024 March 28 fully satisfied the prosecutor’s request, a two-month term for the application of the preventive measure was set. Also, the prosecutor’s decision applies temporary measures to limit the right to ownership.
